What is work experience?

Work experience offers a young person the chance to learn new skills, experience a new environment and get a feel for their future career. Young people will become familiar with the skills and attitudes required in the workplace.

All schools offer young people aged between 14 -16 a period of work experience. This can be for one week or two weeks. Many colleges or sixth forms also offer the opportunity for work experience. Work experience is valuable to a young person as it helps them make informed choices about their career path.

How can employers help?

Employers' can help young people develop the skills and attitudes needed for the workplace, offering them an insight into their chosen career path.
