What is the Young Essex Assembly (YEA)?
The Young Essex Assembly is the elected youth council for Essex. 75 young people from around Essex who are aged between 11 and 19 have been elected to represent young people. They are the voice of all young people in the county and campaign to make a positive difference to their lives. You will be listened to by the County Council, your local council and by other groups working with or for young people.
How does the YEA fit into the scheme of things?
The Young Essex Assembly (YEA) represents young people across Essex. Information and campaigns feed up and down. Right from your village youth group to the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP).
There are 4 meetings or Sittings of the whole YEA each year, but smaller sub-groups meet once a month. Each member of the YEA joins one sub-group. The Sittings are held all over Essex but the sub-groups meet at County Hall in Chelmsford. Click here to read more about the activities of each sub-group.
If you would like to become a member of the Young Essex Assembly you can now take part in the election process. You need to read through the candidate pack and submit your application and consent forms by the 17 October. Once elected you will be a member of the YEA for 2 years. Don’t be fooled, the YEA will take up a lot of your time. If you don’t think you can give this kind of commitment – maybe you should think again about whether or not the YEA is for you.
